When most people think of Arizona they think of the desert scenery that encompasses most of the Southern regions of the state. What many do not know is that Arizona is a truly complex state with a variety of elevations and scenic areas. For those looking for a lovely weekend getaway to the shaded pine forests of Northern Arizona look no further than Flagstaff. This humble town is home to Northern Arizona University and is popular with local residents of Arizona. Finding the right things to do can be difficult if this is your first time visiting the area. Take a look at the perfect three-day itinerary we have for a weekend trip to Flagstaff:
Day 1 – Friday
Many individuals spend their Fridays on three-day trips arriving at their destination. Flagstaff features a high elevation providing cool temperatures throughout the year. If you are visiting during the warmer times of the year your first day can be best spent exploring the wonderful outdoor areas of Flagstaff. This includes a visit to Sunset Crater where visitors can find an extinct volcano with a modest hike to trek. For a little bit of a further drive, guests can check out Walnut Canyon National Monument which includes cliff dwellings and beautiful geological formations.
As your day unwinds you will find yourself ready for a delicious meal in Flagstaff. Luckily the city is home to many different locally owned restaurants, especially in the downtown neighborhood. Try out a delicious meal at Diablo Burger. This tasty burger joint features made-to-order burgers served on toasted English muffins; the fries come perfectly seasoned to complete the whole experience. Their spacious outdoor patio is perfect to enjoy during most times of the year.

Luckily seeing the scenic areas around Flagstaff is easy as most areas are within a short driving distance. This includes the ever-popular Coconino National Forest just south of Flagstaff. This incredible nature reserve is best known for its red rocks that tower over everything else around them. Exploring the forest is on many bucket lists so getting to the area early is especially recommended. If you are visiting Flagstaff during the winter season you will want to stick around town to find Arizona Snowbowl ready to take you up the mountain. Arizona Snowbowl is one of Arizona’s top ski resorts that features a variety of winter sports slopes down the mountains. Visitors simply purchase a lift ticket that will take them up the mountain so they can ski or snowboard back down. Their onsite rental shop has everything you need from skis, snowboards, bindings, boots, and more. There is even a shop you can browse to purchase jackets and more. Arizona Snowbowl is found immediately outside of town making it just minutes away from most of our vacation rentals.
Unwind after your busy day or exploring the Coconino National Forest or grinding down the local mountains with a stop at Dark Sky Brewing Company. This cherished local brewery is one of the more recent additions to town opening up a couple of years ago. Their main tasting room features rotating taps of your favorite beers including IPAs, sours, lagers, and many more. Pizzicleta, one of Flagstaff’s most popular pizzerias, shares the interior space offering up their made-to-order pizzas that are a must for anyone looking for a quick bite.
